One hundred drivers and conductors of the Hock Lee Almaga - mated Bus Company took the day off yesterday after the management had refused to give them leave to attend a meeting of their union - the Singapore's Worker's Union.
This incident is decidedly a case of mass resignation. The bus drivers of the Rival Hock Lee Workers Union have resumed their work. The spokesman says " We refuse to grant leave because our rules insist on 48 hours notice for any form of leave."
A spokesman for the workers said the company started the rival union to split the workers. They divided the workers into 2 different sections and those who would not grumble or strike fpor better wages were members of the Hock Lee Bus Workers Union.
"We asked for a day's leave. They purposely refused us to grant us a day off.It was necessary  for us to attend a meeting of our union to consider better conditions of service.' the spokesman said.
